Strauss flies

The odd thing about Fledermaus is that it doesn’t feature any “flittermice”, just an inebriated reveller disguised as one. Johann Strauss 2025 Wien wants to enhance the visibility of these intriguing animals and as of 5 April 2024 will be sponsoring the flying foxes in Schönbrunn Zoo. Why flying foxes, not bats? Intendant Roland Geyer explains: “They’re related to bats, and the good thing about them is that you can watch them in the daytime as well. Hence our choice.”
