The summer concert under the trees and Ferris wheel
In 2025, the Wiener Symphoniker’s annual Prater picnic opens Kultursommer Wien, and of course Johann Strauss will feature prominently. In 1881, he conducted the first performance of his Myrthenblüten waltz there in honour of crownprince Rudolf’s marriage to Stephanie of Belgium. This year, new principal conductor Petr Popelka is on the rostrum, aided and abetted by double-bass virtuoso Georg Breinschmid and his trio. Thomas Quasthoff will be joining the orchestra for a medley of songs by Frank Sinatra.
