A star with management skills to rival his musical genius, Johann Strauss persuaded his brothers and wives to help him make the “Strauss Company“ a going concern. The exhibition explores his demanding life, his relationships with relatives and partners and his love life in Russia. The main emphasis however is on his artistry. Selected documents illustrate rare aspects of the contemporary theatre and the political setting – all of which goes to show that the Strauss phenomenon has lost none of its immediacy.
