Johann Strauss’ triumphant career began on 15 October 1844 at Dommayer’s fashionable “Casino”. Not yet 19, he directed four of his own compositions, making comparisons with his famous father inevitable. Looking for a new bread-winner to replace her unfaithful husband, his mother backed him to the hilt. The concert was a brilliant success. The site of the Casino is now occupied by the Parkhotel Schönbrunn. Join us in the hotel ballroom to relive the magic of that first concert at its original location.
