Operetten-Pasticcio

The premiere on 5 April 1874 at the Theater an der Wien was unique in the way it upended the distinctions between entertainment and musical sophistication, revellers and convicts, aristocrats and menials. But Fledermaus is also uniquely Viennese, so in this very special year, it’s high time for a new production at the original venue. Again, the theatre staff are centrally involved in the performance. In 1874, director Marie Geistinger triumphed as Rosalinde, this time intendant Stefan Herheim is in charge of the staging.
