Fairytale operetta in three acts
based on an unfinished ballet by Johann Strauss
Strauss’ unfinished Cinderella ballet (1899) has inspired Axel Ranisch to dream up something new. Who is “Ida Grünwald, type writer” and why is her name on the title page of the score? The libretto casts a surprisingly modern light on the tale. Was “Ida” involved? The saga of Cinderella’s emancipation also explores the past of the piece itself, juxtaposing different time scales from 1899 to the present. In her new work, Martina Eisenreich addresses Strauss’ artistic identity with the help of quotes from his own output.
